This quote takes me straight to what I do.

Every month, I sit with myself and intentionally plan my Writing for Wellness sessions—what I also like to call Healing with the Pen. Over time, this consistent group writing practice has become something deeper: a ritual. For many participants, it has quietly turned into a space of real healing.

The themes I choose are never random. They emerge from noticing—human experiences, emotional patterns, or something unspoken that may need attention.

Writing, in this sense, becomes a way of learning about ourselves.

It often begins with reading—literature, poetry, or even a simple quote like this one. These pieces remind us that a writer’s work can serve as a doorway. They model what it means to go inward. And from there, writing becomes a response to what we experience internally—a way to understand, name, and gently make sense of our emotions.

When the Direction Shifted

This April, something changed.

We explored a cultural element rooted in our society: the mountain rose season in Jabal Al Akhdar, Oman.

It wasn’t about following a trend. It came from a genuine curiosity to learn—and to learn through metaphor. And what better metaphor than something as natural and layered as the blooming of mountain roses?

There were no expectations set, even from my side as a poetry therapy practitioner. The intention was simple: to explore what exists—through literature, observation, and shared reflection—and allow that to become a pathway for self-discovery.

What Unfolded

What unfolded was more than I expected.

The session became a space not only for self-exploration, but also for uncovering hidden talents among participants.

One participant brought a deep knowledge of flowers and plants, helping us see that a flower is not just an object—it is a character, with its own individuality, much like us.

Another invited us to look beyond the flower itself—to widen our vision and see the landscape that allows such beauty to exist, including its history and environment.

Someone else shared a story of the journey to Jabal Al Akhdar, reminding us that blooming, like any journey, holds layers of growth, understanding, and transformation.

What Opened in Me

As for me, something unexpected opened.

While preparing for the session, I found myself revisiting a memory: a rose my daughter once gave me—originally given to her by her teacher on Teachers’ Day. That teacher had included me among those she wished to honor.

At the time, I hadn’t fully noticed the depth of that gesture.

But in this space of reflection, it returned with meaning.

That memory led to others—moments when I received flowers I never expected. Each one carried something more than beauty; it carried emotion, connection, and recognition.

This session didn’t just enrich the participants—it enriched me too.

An Invitation for You

Think about the last time you received a flower—or something that felt like a flower in a metaphorical sense.

What did it add to you?
What did it awaken in your emotions?
How did it shape the person you are today?

Write about it.

Notice what emerges—whether it’s new awareness, forgotten memories, or emotions that were waiting to be named.

Perhaps this is what roses offer us—not just beauty, but a way to remember, to feel, and to understand.

And when we allow ourselves to write from that place, we begin to see more clearly what lives within us.

Like roses, we do not bloom all at once.
We unfold in layers—through attention, reflection, and time.

This week, I felt like an octopus
stretching myself across this oceanic life.

So many arms.
So many roles.
So many directions pulling at once.

The hardest part is admitting the fear—
not the fear of failure,
but the fear of no longer being able to extend myself endlessly.

The fear of not being “enough”
in all the places I am expected to be:

mother, daughter, sister,
poetry therapy practitioner,
and even the version of me curated online.

And then the quiet truth arrives:

I cannot stretch any further.

This body is aching.
This mind is tired.
This self is asking—gently, insistently—
for rest.

And so I return to what I know,
what I keep forgetting:

A warrior is not the one who carries everything.
A warrior is the one who learns when to put things down.

A warrior rests.
A warrior recharges.
A warrior chooses gentleness over endurance.

We are not here to hold the whole world—
only the part that is truly ours to hold.

So today, I write myself back to myself.

And I offer what I so often postpone:

Rest.
Stillness.
The quiet grace of sleep.

As Paulo Coelho reminds us, the responsible warrior is not the one who carries all burdens, but the one who meets each moment with awareness—and the wisdom to stop when needed.

Why do I write this? What serves the reader?

It does not serve the reader.
It serves release.

As I let go of my octopus tale, I realise:
there is an octopus in all of us.

And the question is not how much we can stretch—
but when we finally stop.

صادفت هذه المقولة أعلاه، وجعلتني أتذكر كيف بدأت رحلتنا في الكتابة الجماعية خلال رمضان.

من الماضي إلى الحاضر

على مدار السنوات الخمس الماضية، كانت جلسات الكتابة التأملية تتوقف في شهر رمضان…
ولكن في 2023 تغيّر الوضع تمامًا.

أحد المشاركات سألت:
“لماذا نتوقف عن الكتابة في رمضان؟ أليست الكتابة جزءًا من توجيه أنفسنا للعبادة؟”

وأجمل ما قالت هذه المشاركة:
“عندما نكتب، أشعر كأنني في جلسة ذكر.”

منذ ذلك الحين، أصبحت الكتابة جزءًا من تأملاتنا الرمضانية ، أصبح القلم أداة مهمة للروح كي تتعلم وتتدبر في هذا الشهر الكريم.

The Warrior Within reflects the reality that each one of us goes through struggles. We continue living through life’s ups and downs, and in doing so, we are warriors — even when we do not always recognize it. This session is to help us become more aware of our inner light and strength already developed through our lived experiences. Through poetry and reflective writing, the session supports awareness of personal resilience.

After the session, participants are likely to:

1. Become more aware of their inner strength

2. Be encouraged to engage in inner dialogue rather than self-judgment

As the new year arrived, I pulled out my wish lists and compared what had actually taken place with what was still waiting to be done. I found myself torn between creating a vision board or journaling through a scripting methodology, reviewing the programs I had planned to start and the goals I hoped to reach.

Yet what was never on the plan was this: a family member undergoing surgery.

The month began with me organizing my time carefully—between my children’s programs, my part-time job, and my Writing for Wellness sessions. As the day of the operation drew closer, tension quietly settled into my mind. The truth revealed itself gently but firmly: nothing could truly be planned, except what needed to be done to care for my loved one during this time.

Spiritual duaa and prayer offered enormous reassurance throughout the healing journey. Writing became my refuge, calming a soul that feels safest within routine. Still, deep down, my plans for 2026 remained unplanned. With such a profound transition unfolding, nothing felt clear or fixed.

From this experience, I learned something I want to share—especially for those in transition, at a time when social media floods us with vision boards, goals, and perfectly mapped-out years:

• Don’t worry if your 2026 is not fully in place.

• Create a wish list if time allows.

• Take life one day at a time.

• Allow yourself to live the unplanned phase.

• Read poetry—and see if it invites you to write, to calm your nervous system.

Writing did exactly that for me. It made a real difference in grounding my emotions and easing my inner restlessness.

And here is the unexpected truth:

My unplanned calendar brought unexpected gifts.

I met new people in hospital corridors.
I discovered poets I had never known before.
I ate at restaurants I had passed many times without noticing.
Me, My daughter and nieces prayed in a beautiful masjid they had never visited before.

All of this happened because of unplanned moments—moments created while visiting a beloved family member in the hospital. I was not abandoning the plan; I was relearning how to adapt when circumstances became unplanned.

A Writing Invitation for You

If you find yourself on an unplanned path, pause and write:

What happens when life does not go according to plan?
Is there beauty in the unplanned,
or only missed opportunities?

Write gently. Write honestly.

You may discover, as I did, that the unplanned life still carries grace.

As Viktor E. Frankl reminds us:

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

وجاء ذلك اليوم،
حين غدا البقاء منغلقًا في برعمٍ أشد إيلامًا من نداء المخاطرة كي نزهر ونشرق.

لقد جعلتني هذه المقولة أُدرك أن التحول أو التغيير لا يخلو من عنصر الألم. لكن، المفارقة أن البقاء على حالنا بلا خوض أو تجديد هو بحد ذاته أشد إيلامًا؛ لأنك ترى نفسك مكفوف اليدين، عاجزًا عن الحركة، وكأنك تنتظر دون جدوى. فالألم إذن هو الشرارة الأولى للتحول.

لكن ماذا بعد الألم؟ يأتي نداء المخاطرة، ذلك الصوت الذي يدفعنا إلى خوض المجهول، إلى المغامرة بما هو غير مألوف. المخاطرة قد تبدو مرعبة، لكنها باب نحو اكتشاف جديد.

وهنا لا بد أن نستحضر الإيمان؛ أن نترك لأنفسنا حرية العبور نحو ما لا نعرف، ونحن واثقون أن التدبير بيد رب العالمين، وأن ما وراء الضفة الأخرى لا يمكن إلا أن يكون مما قدّر الله فيه الخير.

ومع هذا العبور، تأتي الكتابة كرفيقة طريق. حين نمسك القلم ونكتب، تتكشف لنا زوايا أخرى للقصة. نرى التشابكات: الخوف، الإيمان، الأمل، والرغبة في تذوق المغامرة. الكتابة تمنحنا وضوحًا لم نكن نراه من قبل.

وفي نهاية الرحلة، هناك الثمرة. ثمرة النجاة، ثمرة التغيير، ثمرة المعنى الأعمق الذي لا يُكتشف إلا إذا خاطرنا وخضنا الرحلة.

فلا يمكن أن نقف إلى الأبد على ضفة واحدة. علينا أن نعبر، أن نخاطر، أن نخطو خطوة صغيرة نحو المجهول، حتى نكتشف أن في الضفة الأخرى حياةً أوسع، ومعنى أعمق، ونورًا أبهى.

I walked in assuming: boys don’t talk about tears.
But what I witnessed shifted that frame completely.

Our minds often classify individuals before we even meet them.
I did the same when I was invited to deliver a Writing for Wellness session for teenage boys.

These young men reminded me: tears are not weakness.
Given space, they carry the courage to name their emotions — and show us what their ways to face their emotions.

As I left, I knew that someday, some of them will recall this day — remembering how writing gave them the courage to go the extra miles in refelecting their emotions with their writings, and perhaps, to hold their pen even more dearly.

"ما هي الحياة؟ سلسلة من نعم ولا...
الاستمرار في المضي قدمًا، التحمل،
عدم التوقف حتى في وجود الألم.
هذه هي الحياة... الاستمرار."

مرّت عليّ أسابيع من التشويش الذهني.
أشعر أن هناك ععضو داخلي، قد يكون جسدياً أو روحياً — امتداد شخص قريب يتألم — ليس ألمًا يُرى، ولا يُمسك، لكنه يُربك الجسد، يشوّش الذهن، ويُبقيني في حالة من الخمول غير المفسّر.

ورغم كل هذا، أُجبر ذاتي كل صباح
أن تنهض برسالة غير مكتوبة:
"استمري."

كأنها راية صغيرة أرفعها في وجه الإرهاق، حتى لا أُصبح فريسة لما يعتريني من ابتلاءات روحية أو جسدية.

• بين الألم والسوشيال ميديا...

اليوم سألت نفسي:
هل أكتب منشورًا على وسائل التواصل؟
هل أشارك إنجازات جلسات الكتابة التي انتهت قريبًا، وأنا بداخلي عضو روحي ما زال في فترة تشافي؟

وقعت بين مفارقة: بين "الحياة التي تستمر"، وبين "عضو روحي يتألم".

وسبحان الله، كما لو أن الحياة كانت تسمعني، وجدت مقولة لهالة عليان.
كأنها كُتبت عني، وعنك، وعن كلّ من يحاول أن يعيش رغم ألمه.

🌀 كلّنا نمر بفترات شبيهة:

ضبابية. مشوّشة. غير واضحة الأسباب.
لكننا رغم ذلك... نستمر.

لكن... كيف؟

هل نملك آلية للاستمرار؟
هل هي قوة داخلية؟
أم جلسات دعاء؟ أم صحبة داعمة؟
أم الكتابة؟ أم النوم كآلية دفاعية؟
أم مجرد قرار: أن أستمر، حتى وإن لم أملك كل الأجوبة؟

تحفيز كتابي:

اكتب رسالة إلى "العضو" الذي يتألم فيك.
ليس بالضرورة عضوًا من جسدك — ربما هو جزء من روحك، أو امتداد لشخص قريب منك.

ماذا تقول له؟
ما الذي تطلبه منه؟
وما الهدية التي تهديها له؟

كل كتابة صادقة، هي اعتراف للذات.
وكل اعتراف بالألم، هو شجاعة.
وكل استمرار، هو نصر صغير.

هل شعرت يومًا أنك تكتب من مكانٍ موجوع؟

أبريل، شهر الشعر...

في شهر أبريل، يحتفل العالم بالشعر، ليس فقط عبر الاحتفاء بالشعراء الكبار، بل بتشجيع الأفراد، وخاصة الطلبة، على قراءة وكتابة القصائد. وهذا بحد ذاته دعوة للاقتراب من اللغة كمساحة للتعبير، للتشافي، وللوعي.

أنا شخصيًا، كممارسة لفنون الكتابة للتشافي، وبالتحديد عبر الشعر (Poetry Therapy Practitioner)، أؤمن أن الشعر ليس مجرد فن أدبي، بل هو مهدئ للنفس بلا عقاقير. لا أعني هنا أن يكون بديلًا للعلاج النفسي، ولكنّي أراه مساحة ضرورية في حياتنا، نتأمل من خلالها، نكتب منها، ونستخرج ما لا نستطيع قوله بالكلام.

الشعر مرآةٌ لما نعيشه

الشعر بالنسبة لي لم يكن فقط وسيلة تعبير، بل هو رسالة تروي ما لا يمكن البوح به مباشرة. سواء على المستوى الشخصي أو من خلال القضايا الإنسانية الكبرى، كان الشعر دائمًا صوتًا مرافقًا للوجع، للكرامة، وللمقاومة.

ولا يمكن الحديث عن هذا دون الوقوف عند الشعر الفلسطيني، الذي كتب تاريخ شعبٍ مقاوم بلغة مرهفة، عميقة، خالدة. ففي فترات تصاعد العدوان على الشعب الفلسطيني الأعزل، كانت قراءتي لقصائد الشعراء الفلسطينيين — من الداخل أو من الشتات — نافذة لفهم أعمق لمعنى الصمود، ومن ثمّ وسيلة لتفريغ مشاعري، واستعادة توازني الداخلي.

الكتابة كأداة لفهم الذات

الشعر ليس فقط نصًا يُقرأ أو يُكتب، بل نموذج يُلهم. عندما يقرأ الفرد تجربة شعرية قريبة من تجربته، يشعر أن ما بداخله أصبح مفهومًا، ممثلًا. وهذا وحده قد يدفعه للكتابة، لاستكشاف ذاته، وللتعبير عن مشاعر يصعب التعبير عنها بطرق أخرى.

حين يكتب الشخص عن تجاربه عبر الشعر، يبدأ بتحرير ما هو مكبوت بداخله، خاصة المشاعر المعقدة أو المؤلمة. وهنا تبدأ رحلة جديدة: التأمل، التعلم، والتغيير. فالفرد حين يكتب ويقرأ ما كتبه، يرى تجربته بمنظور جديد، ويبدأ بفهم ذاته بشكل أعمق.

الشعر ضرورة

وهنا تكمن قوة الشعر... ليس فقط كفن، بل كوسيلة للوعي والشفاء. وهذا ما عبّرت عنه الشاعرة أودري لورد حين قالت

"الشعر ليس ترفًا، بل هو ضرورة حيوية لوجودنا. فهو يُشكّل نوعية الضوء الذي نُسقِط عليه آمالنا وأحلامنا من أجل البقاء والتغيير، يُصاغ أولًا في اللغة، ثم يتحوّل إلى فكرة، ثم إلى فعل ملموس."

waiting for all of you

to gather around me,

the poems are ready, and my heart is waiting.

Will you be there when the recital takes place,

or will your hearts have wandered elsewhere?

As the poem is released, I breathe out —

and wonder if you will breathe it in:

gently, lightly, traveling into your beings.

As it travels,

I wonder if your souls will embrace it as well.

I listen —

to your eyes, your faces, your language.

Will your words arrive to me accepting or troubling?

Will you take the poems lightly, gently?

Whatever it is,

I am your channel,

allowing you to cross —

Wَard Wَa Shawk (Roses and Thorn) is hosted by HH Sayyida Prof. Amaal Al Said and Nasra Al Adawi, brought together by their shared love for writing. Nasra, a Poetry Therapy Practitioner, and Sayyida Amaal, a professor and life coach, first connected through Healing Pen sessions, where writing was used as a tool for wellness and self-reflection.

In this episode, they reflect on how these sessions—especially during COVID-19—became a powerful source of emotional and mental well-being. Over time, Nasra affectionately nicknamed Sayyida Amaal as Lady Amaal, a name she has come to cherish. On the other hand, Lady Amaal persistently calls Nasra Ustatha (meaning teacher/professor), despite Nasra’s gentle reminders to simply call her Nasra. Yet, Lady Amaal insists, seeing her as a mentor and guide.

Sayyida Amaal shares how she once wrote poetry in her youth but drifted away from it over the years. However, joining a safe and creative space through these sessions rekindled her passion for writing, allowing her to reconnect with her creativity and share her wisdom with others._

عندما نفقد شخصًا عزيزًا، قد تمنحنا القوانين إجازة قصيرة لمن هم يعملون، ربما تُحدد بأيام معدودة، لكن ألم الفقد لا يُقاس بالوقت الرسمي الممنوح لنا للعودة كما كنا، خاصة في فقد من هم قريبون منا. فهو لا يظهر دائمًا على السطح، بل يتغلغل في أعماقنا، كأنه يعصر القلب بقبضة من وجع لا يُرى.

لكل منا طريقته في الإحساس بهذا الألم، لأنه مرتبط بمدى عمق علاقتنا بالشخص الذي فقدناه. كان فقدان والدي مختلفًا تمامًا عن فقدان والد أبنائي. مع والدي، استغرق الأمر مني وقتًا طويلًا لأجد طريقًا للسلام الداخلي، فقد كان الألم ممتزجًا بعدم مسامحة الذات، خاصةً لعدم وجودي بجانبه في لحظة رحيله.

لطالما كنت أمارس الكتابة، لكنني لم أكن أدرك أنها أداة فعالة في تخفيف وطأة الفقد أو مساعدتي على التعامل معه. شاءت الأقدار أن يكون تعاملي مع فقدان والدي الدافع لي لنشر كتابي الأول "باقة الأفكار"، والذي وُلد من رحم هذه الخسارة. كانت الكتابة والنشر بمثابة طريق لتخفيف 50% من ألم الفقد، لكنها لم تكن كافية للوصول إلى حالة التشافي التام.

الكتابة وسيلة للختام العاطفي

خلال تخصصي في ممارسات فنون الكتابة للتشافي، كانت أول جلسة لي مع زميلاتي حول التعامل مع الفقد، وهناك، ولأول مرة، أدركت أهمية الختام العاطفي (Closure). أحيانًا، نحتاج إلى فرصة للغلق—لحديث لم يُقال، لكلمات لم تُنطق، أو لأمور ظلت عالقة في دواخلنا. عندما كتبنا في تلك الجلسة، اكتشفت كم كان الحزن متراكمًا داخلي، وكم كان هناك عبء لم أواجهه بعد. كتبت رسالة غير مرسلة (Unsent Letter) إلى والدي، وكان ذلك ما احتجته لأبدأ رحلة التشافي.

الكتابة كأداة للصمود

من جمال الأدب العربي، نجد أن الشعراء كانت لهم قصائد الرثاء من فنون الشعر العربي ووسيلة استخدمها الشعراء العرب قديمًا إلى الآن للتعامل مع الفقد، ليس فقط كطريقة للتعبير عن الحزن، بل أيضًا كوسيلة لترك أثر طيب عن الفقيد وذكرى خالدة لمن رحلوا. هنا أود التأكيد أن الكتابة ليست مجرد تنفيس عن المشاعر، بل هي آلية للصمود، تمنحنا القوة على التحمل مثلما قام الشعراء بنشر قصائدهم رثاءً لمن يحبون، فهي أيضًا لنا كبرهان بآليات المستخدمة في التنفيس وحتما يمكننا أيضًا أن نكتب قصائد أو خواطر لتساعدنا في إيجاد معنى وسط الألم.

كيف نستخدم الكتابة للتعامل مع الفقد؟

1. كتابة رسالة غير مرسلة: التركيز على التعبير عن المشاعر العالقة، مثل الشكر على العطاء، أو الامتنان لفرصة التعرف على الفقيد.

2. كتابة خاطرة أو قصيدة: تسرد أجمل الذكريات مع الفقيد، مما يساعد على تخليد الذكرى الجميلة واستحضار المشاعر الدافئة بدلاً من الألم فقط. ولمن يجد الصعوبة في الكتابة يمكن البدء بـ"أتذكرك... " ثم سرد التفاصيل الحسية للمواقف المشتركة، مما يساعد على إعادة بناء الذكرى بشكل يجسد حضور الفقيد بطريقة مريحة.

بعضنا قد يجد صعوبة في الكتابة بمفرده، لذا يمكن الاسترشاد بمختص في الصحة النفسية أو ممارس في فنون الكتابة، أو حتى الانضمام إلى جلسات الكتابة الجماعية، حيث يتيح ذلك التعبير بحرية ضمن بيئة داعمة تساعدك على التعامل مع الفقد بشكل صحي ومثمر.

يقول الشاعر ابن زاكور:

"إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفِرَاقِ أَحْرَقَ قَلْبِي
وَكَوَانِي الْفِرَاقُ بِالنَّارِ كَيَّا
إِنْ قَضَى اللهُ بَيْنَنَا بِاجْتِمَاعٍ
لاَ ذَكَرْتُ الْفِرَاقَ مَا دُمْتُ حَيَّا"

كما قال الشاعر بأن الفقد إحساس مؤلم، حتمًا عامل الوقت يعمل في التئام القلب والروح، إلا أنه إلى أن نصل ذلك الوقت، لتكن الكتابة معبرًا تمنحنا وسيلة لتخفيف شدة الحزن، لتصبح أداة تمكين في وقت نحن بأمس الحاجة لرفيق يكون معنا في فترة نقوم بلم الجراح الداخلي، فجرب رفيق القلم فهو رفيق يعطينا القدرة بأن نتنفس شيئًا فشيئًا.

When you lose someone you love,
Your life becomes strange,
The ground beneath you becomes fragile,
Your thoughts make your eyes unsure;
And some dead echo drags your voice down

This poem was read to us during my first peer group session for my poetry therapy practitioner credential. It made me aware of how I have experienced the loss of loved ones throughout my life—a reality we all must face. In that session, I not only appreciated John O’Donohue’s words but also recognized how he captured the inevitability of loss as part of our human experience.

I will not diminish the pain of losing someone—some losses take a long time before we can return to a sense of normalcy, if we ever do. Grief forces us into transition, moving through denial, anger, awareness, and, eventually, acceptance.

In Islam, there is guidance on how to receive the news of death and how spiritual preparation can ease the journey toward acceptance. The act of du'aa (prayer) for those we lose serves as both a farewell and a continued connection to them.

Like many others, I have gone through grief’s stages. But one realization stands out to me: the importance of farewell in the transition process. In my work in writing for wellness, I have seen the power of writing, particularly when done within the first month after a loss. This kind of writing isn’t about dwelling on pain but about honoring the life that was lived. It can be a way to appreciate what this person brought into our lives or to express gratitude for the time we had with them.

During that session, for the first time, I was given a tool to handle my own grief over losing my father. I wrote him an unsent letter—a letter of thanks. It was a relief to find beauty within the pain, to be brave enough to hold onto cherished memories. Writing that letter provided a sense of closure, giving voice to the unspoken.

In Arab poetry, the tradition of rithāʾ—similar to Western elegies—has long been used to express grief. These poems are not merely laments; they serve as a way to honor and bear witness to the lives of those who have passed. They help reframe loss, shifting the mind toward appreciation rather than absence.

Additionally, poetry provides us with an expressive tool to release emotions into precise words. It serves as both an outlet and a mirror. Whether through structured forms like rithāʾ or free-flowing personal reflections, poetry allows us to transform loss into legacy.

I encourage anyone navigating the transition of loss to write. If writing feels too difficult, seeking guidance from a mental health specialist or a writing-for-wellness practitioner can provide much-needed support in this healing process.

Here’s how. Photographs are prompts for our thinking. Take a photo of something—maybe during a walk on the beach—and then go back to it later. You’ll find that the photograph is speaking to you.

For instance, here’s a photograph I took of two horses. As I looked at it, questions started forming in my mind: What is this photo trying to teach me? Why did these horses come together at that moment? What unspoken language passed between them? What shifted in that instant, allowing me to capture their stillness?

I wrote these questions down. I sat with them. And as I returned to the photograph, I realized something deeper—what truly captivated me was the effortless connection between these two horses. The chemistry between them was magnetic. It made me reflect on my own relationships. What would happen if I allowed myself to experience connection as naturally as they did? If I let go of distance, of hesitation—how much would my soul expand?

Taking photos may not be like putting pen to paper, but they hold insight if we take the time to observe. When we pair photography with reflection—when we ask questions and write down our thoughts—it leads us to discoveries about ourselves.

Some might feel that this process is too lengthy, that sitting with a photo and waiting for inspiration requires too much patience. But our minds need this kind of exercise. It moves our brains from a static state to an active one, where connections emerge, past experiences resurface, and emotions shift.

"I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn."

I am reminded of my visits to schools in 2024 and agalin at the start of 2025 meeting teens. It became clear to me that when we wrote together, it was not easy for them to expose themselves, to put their emotions onto the page. Writing gave them the opportunity to express their emotions beyond the constraints of syllable requirements— hardly encouraging self-expressive writing.

It is not easy for teens to reveal themselves. Yet, when they wrote, it took great courage to release those emotions.

So, here’s to all the girls and boys I met. I salute you—for you have been courageous enough to go to the edge of your inner self and write from there. Indeed, your courage was reborn.

When schools open their doors to writers, poets, and poetry therapy practitioners, they move beyond simply teaching humanities subjects as compulsory educational requirements. They create young adults who are not just competent in analyzing literature but who can express themselves through books, stories, and poetry.

They go beyond learning the structure of a poem or a story—they embody what is written. They are allowed to feel not just the writer’s emotions but their own, reaching deeper into their personal experiences. They begin to understand what moves them and transform those emotions into something tangible—something they can hold, share, and make sense of. This nurtures their social-emotional learning.

Perhaps, at one time, they felt too vulnerable to show their emotions. But through writing, they discovered that what they feel inside is not forbidden—it is a part of their human self. It is worth seeing, worth understanding. And if those emotions overflow onto the page, they can be held, they can be understood, and they can become a source of learning.

في إحدى جلساتنا الأخيرة، جلسة الكتابة للعودة إلى الذات، طرحنا على أنفسنا أسئلة جريئة، مستلهمين من الكاتب كال نيوبورت في كتابه "التقليلية الرقمية: اختيار حياة مركزة في عالم مليء بالضوضاء". أكثر من أي وقت مضى، نحن بحاجة إلى عزلة عن الأجهزة الرقمية، أو ما سماه الكاتب بـ "التقليلية الرقمية".

ومن هنا، تذكرت ساعة الأرض، ذلك الحدث السنوي الذي نطفئ فيه الأضواء تكريمًا لكوكبنا. لكن ماذا لو أطلقنا وقتًا خاصًا بنا، لحظات يومية نعود فيها إلى ذواتنا، مستخدمين القلم فقط؟ هكذا وُلدت فكرة "ساعة الكتابة"—لحظة للانفصال عن الأجهزة الرقمية والعودة إلى أدواتنا البسيطة: القلم والورقة.

يقول كال نيوبورت في وصفه لمفهوم فقدان العزلة:

"حرمان العزلة: حالة تقضي فيها وقتًا يكاد يكون معدومًا وحدك مع أفكارك، بعيدًا عن أي مدخلات ذهنية من الآخرين."

أما جوليا كاميرون، فتتحدث في كتابها التدوين الصباحي: طريق الفنانين عن أهمية التدوين الصباحي، مشيرة إلى أن الكتابة ضرورة روحية:

"يجب أن نكتب لأن البشر كائنات روحية، والكتابة شكل قوي من التأمل، تربطنا بأفكارنا العميقة، وتوصلنا بمستوى أعمق من الإرشاد الداخلي."

ما هي ساعة الكتابة؟

هي وقت نخصصه لأنفسنا، بعيدًا عن تشتيت الأجهزة الرقمية وضجيج العالم الخارجي. ومن المثير للاهتمام أن التقليلية الرقمية أصبحت أحد الاتجاهات الحديثة في مجال الصحة والعافية لعام 2025، حيث يُوصى بالحد من التعرض المستمر للشاشات واستعادة مساحات العزلة الذهنية.

تشبه ساعة الكتابة عملية ترتيب خزانة داخلية مليئة بالمشاعر والتجارب المتراكمة. فالقلم هو أداتنا لتنظيم تلك الفوضى، تمامًا كما نمارس الرياضة للحفاظ على صحة أجسامنا. الكتابة هي رياضة للعقل والروح، تساعدنا على تفريغ الأحمال الذهنية وإعادة جدولة أفكارنا.

كيف نمارس ساعة الكتابة؟

🕰 1. تخصيص وقت:
ابدأ بتحديد وقت ثابت يوميًا، سواء كان ساعة كاملة أو بضع دقائق، ويفضل أن يكون في الصباح قبل الانشغال بالعمل.

✍️ 2. مواجهة المشاعر المتراكمة:
اكتب عن المشاعر التي تجتاحك، سواء كانت متصلة بأحداث معينة أو بأشخاص في حياتك. جرّب كتابة "رسائل غير مرسلة"، تعبر فيها عن أفكارك تجاه مواقف مررت بها.

📖 3. تدوين الدروس المستفادة:
بعد انتهاء الكتابة، توقف للحظة واسأل نفسك: "ماذا علمتني هذه التجربة؟" وقم بكتابة ما تعلمت

هذه الممارسة ليست مجرد تفريغ للمشاعر، بل أداة لاستعادة التوازن الداخلي. تساعدنا على تخفيف الأعباء الذهنية، وتحليل المواقف بعيدًا عن ضغوط الحياة اليومية. من خلال هذه اللحظات الصامتة، نعيد شحن عقولنا وقلوبنا، ونرى الأمور بمنظور أكثر وضوحًا.
